To make it more simple, collocated web hosting platform is almost the same with running a site that uses your own server which you can locate in a much better place that is specially designed for it.
What happens if you choose collocated web hosting platform are: you gain high-maintained security level against vandalism and fire; dedicated web connection; and backup power that is regulated.
